Hi! My name's Harriet Gauger, and I write copy for web and travel.

I studied English literature and creative writing at the University of Plymouth, where I honed my craft, working with seasoned authors like Ben Smith (Doggerland) and Miriam Darlington (Owl Sense). My writing expanded into various genres, including stage, screen, and creative non-fiction.

In 2023, I began writing for a cruise travel company, which sparked my passion for copywriting. Since then, I've completed a digital marketing course with the University of Leeds in July 2024 to develop my skills.

I'm currently seeking volunteer, freelance, or full-time copywriting roles, where I bring my signature vivid vocabulary and fluent style to every project.

A little bit about me.

I'm currently writing two (yes, two) books in my free time: The Enchanting of Ebonisle, a fantasy novel, and a yet-to-be-titled young adult book about a school shooting.

I'm an avid Shakespeare fan and a history buff. My head is brimming with fun facts and anecdotes.

Sailing Beyond the Brief: My Proudest Moment as a Copywriter

Every copywriter has a story that marks their growth — a moment when their skills and creativity meet a new opportunity. For me, that moment happened at my very first copywriting job, where I contributed to a project that completely transformed my confidence and skill set.My regular tasks involved crafting content for luxury cruises and holiday packages, mainly for web pages. So when I was invited to contribute to the monthly DM campaign, I jumped at the opportunity. It wasn’t just any promotion...

Shakespeare’s Birthplace is every Bard buff’s delight

Even on a drizzly Saturday morning in October, the sleepy market town streets of Stratford-upon-Avon still pulled me in. The dark, half-timbered houses nestled close together, the thatched rooves with proud chimneys puffing out smoke; almost exactly as it had been in William Shakespeare’s day. My visit here was long overdue.I’ve been a Shakespeare nerd for as long as I can remember. I vividly recall watching Shakespeare 4 Kidz productions on DVD in my family home, and I was hooked from the start...

Marty and the Fisherman

Marty had frizzy ginger hair and a freckled face to match. Hopping along the weathered docks by the harbour, she hummed a made-up song and smiled vaguely at her surroundings: a cloud in the distance shaped like a fish, a seagull that looked to have lipstick on… and a man on a boat with a squinty eye that she tried to copy.Marty stopped, out of breath with the effort of walking under the August sun, hefting her lunch pail and chalk slate with tiny hands. She set her school things on the floorboar...

Thicker Than Water

It was on an overcast day in June that Rosie waded in the belly of a steel grey ocean. She knew how vile the water was on this side of the beach. How her sister, Rachel, would grimace wading through its grey foam or complain if a rock grazed her foot. But Rosie liked the way that the ocean liked her. The only distinguishable smell for miles along this coast was the seaweed, rotten and rubbery, brushing at her ankles and combing itself into her hair. She liked to believe this was the first sign t...

Here’s every reason why you should dance naked

Today, I stripped down and looked at my body in the mirror. I sat, stood, danced and just looked at myself, and in the space of that hour and a half (because it really took that long to get to grips with myself) I dug into a host of complex thoughts that seeing my body brought to mind. But more importantly, I remember asking myself why I don’t do this, and why I should do it more often. As a child, when my body began to mature, so did my mind and, as I believe most of us do, I gradually curated a...
